New Zealanders are packing up the car boots and boarding planes this Easter weekend

Latest data from accommodation giant Air BnB shows domestic travellers are searching for North Island escapes.

The top trending locations are Auckland, Napier, Hastings, Cambridge, Whanganui, Karapiro and Waiheke Island.

But country director Susan Wheeldon says holiday-makers are also following the sun with international trips.

She says people seeking warmer weather are heading to South East Asia, the US, northern states of Australia and Europe.
