A new report's found the techniques a Police officer used to arrest a 67-year-old man caused injuries that later killed him

A new report's found the techniques a Police officer used to arrest a 67-year-old man caused injuries that later killed him

In December 2021, Peter Tuhi parked in the Levin Cosmopolitan Club carpark before going to a nearby bar.

Police were called after he returned to his vehicle intoxicated and became angry at a club member parked nearby.

Tuhi was arrested for assault after trying to push past the officer to get to the man.

While restraining Tuhi, the police officer lifted his leg upwards and forwards -- resulting in him hitting the asphalt head first.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority's found the decision to take him to the ground was justified but the technique was inappropriate and dangerous.
