    A Canterbury man has been crowned carpentry apprentice of the year


    22-year-old Alex Erickson beat out Tauranga's Jared Menzies and Taupo's Daniel Merwyn - for the title at the New Zealand Certified Builders Apprentice Challenge.

    Apprentices were judged on examples of work, dedication to their apprenticeship, and a presentation at a conference.
