New Zealand's largest port has seen a jump in financial performance, even as cargo volumes slow

New Zealand's largest port has seen a jump in financial performance, even as cargo volumes slow

Port of Tauranga delivered a 5.2 percent improvement in net profit after tax to 117.1 million dollars for the year to June 30.

That's despite overall cargo volumes decreasing 3.6 percent to 24.7 million tonnes, container volumes were also down slightly.

Revenue was 420 million dollars, a 25 million dollar increase on the previous year.

Chair Julia Hoare says results were bolstered during the first half by increased container trans-shipments and the return of summer cruise ships, with weather events disrupting the second half.
