A kayak belonging to a fisherman missing since yesterday has washed ashore in the Firth of Thames

A kayak belonging to a fisherman missing since yesterday has washed ashore in the Firth of Thames

The missing man was fishing with a friend off Thames Coast Road, north of the Waikawau Boat Ramp.

His friend went onshore for assistance when the man lost his oar, but he was gone when they returned.

Senior Sergeant Leo Belay says it's possible he made it to shore - and searches will continue today.

He's asking anyone with information to contact police.
