    A man is in hospital with serious injuries after a group assault outside a New Plymouth bar overnight


    The 29-year-old was picking up a friend on Ariki Street, near Icons Sports Bar around 12.30am, when he was attacked.

    Police believe the victim may know one of the offenders, but inquiries into their identities continue.

    The incident comes as Labour Leader Chris Hipkins prepares to visit the city this morning.
