A South Island school community is calling for the resignation of a principal, after her husband's sex offence convictions were made public

A South Island school community is calling for the resignation of a principal, after her husband's sex offence convictions were made public

Glenys Hanley has been the principal of Catlins Area School in Owaka since 2021, and before that worked at Cheviot and Kaikoura schools.

Our newsroom can reveal her husband, Simon Kirk Melville, was jailed in 2007 for a sexually-motivated attack on an English tourist in a Blenheim camping ground toilet block.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed it's received one anonymous complaint, which has been handed back to the school to be dealt with.

An email circulating among parents is calling for Hanley to step down as principal and presiding member of the board of trustees.
