A dairy farm has been fined 40-thousand dollars for dairy effluent ending up into a culturally and ecologically significant stream flowing to Lake Rotorua

A dairy farm has been fined 40-thousand dollars for dairy effluent ending up into a culturally and ecologically significant stream flowing to Lake Rotorua

Chlorofield Limited has been sentenced in the Environment Court.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council prosecuted the farm for breaching the Resource Management Act.

It pleaded guilty to discharging dairy effluent on to land that may enter water.

The effluent ponded in a paddock and flowed into Waiteti Stream - then entered Lake Rotorua about four kilometres downstream.
