A Rotorua dairy farmer's been fined 40-thousand-dollars for discharging effluent into Waiteti Stream

The Bay of Plenty Council was notified after the normally clear water became greeny-brown.

Staff found the farmer's travelling irrigator had failed, letting effluent flow into the stream and eventually Lake Rotorua.

Judge Smith says irrigators constantly fail and it's to be expected.
