Emergency crews are battling a scrub fire which has broken out in South Hill, just outside Oamaru

25 firefighters and a helicopter are working to extinguish the 100 square metre blaze, which appears to be burning up the cliff face.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says the fire is believed to be under control, but they have evacuated the immediate area for public safety.

The spokesperson says no structures are under threat.
