    A man is due in court today, accused of hijacking an ambulance while receiving treatment from paramedics in Hamilton


    Police say a man was being treated on Ulster Street in Whitiora about 12.30 yesterday afternoon, when he took control of the ambulance and took it for a joy ride.

    They say he crashed the ambulance into a nearby building -- a lodge -- and was arrested a short time later.

    The 32-year-old is set to appear in the Hamilton District Court today, on a charge of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
