Extra police staff are heading to Whakatane to offer support amidst a homicide investigation

Extra police staff are heading to Whakatane to offer support amidst a homicide investigation

A 20-year-old man died after being taken to hospital on Sunday night - and a forensic post-mortem will be conducted today.

Police now believe it may be gang-related.

They're seeking sightings of suspicious activity in the eastern Bay of Plenty town of Ruatoki, between nine and 9.45 on Sunday night.

Detective Inspector Lew Warner says Police won't tolerate any retaliatory gang attacks.

He says extra officers are arriving from other districts - and Police will be highly visible.
