High pressure and warm, humid air drifting across the country, will cause temperatures around Hawke's Bay, Canterbury, and Central Otago to reach upwards of 30 degrees.
MetService says the weekend's moisture will hang around on Monday, and there's a chance of passing showers and a couple of heavier downfalls may pop up in many parts.
Meteorologist Alan Bailey, says eastern areas of both the North and South Island, have the biggest chance of a dry Christmas.
He says western and central areas of both islands are in for some showers on Christmas Day, which will turn heavy in the afternoon. 12-23-23 1517
