A number of youths were arrested for disorderly behaviour in Whangamata, Ohope and Tauranga during New Year celebrations

A number of youths were arrested for disorderly behaviour in Whangamata, Ohope and Tauranga during New Year celebrations

But Police say they're otherwise generally pleased with the behaviour of those ringing in 2024.

Assistant Commissioner Mike Johnson says while the weather may have affected celebrations, thousands gathered in various locations across the country.

He says many officers have described it as being like a busy Saturday night, with some alcohol-related disorder, but no signifcant issues.

Johnson's reminding everyone who may be heading home from holiday in the coming days, to keep safe and be patients on the roads.
