Settled weather is in store for most of the country this Waitangi day, as a high pressure system moves across New Zealand

But some parts of the South aren't so lucky, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected for Fiordland.

MetService meteorologist John Law says most of us will enjoy calm weather over the public holiday.

He says most of the country is dominated by the high pressure, but Southland will see heavy rainfall and strong winds.
