Hopes a drone could help solve the case of missing Gisborne father-of-eight, Joseph Ahuriri, not seen since Cyclone Gabrielle

He was last spotted outside Napier on February 14 last year, at the Bay View Waitomo Fuel Stop with his car.

Police have used a magnometer drone system in Eskdale - looking for submerged metallic objects, which could indicate other sites to investigate.

Police say results will released to them next month.

Police are staying in close contact with his family.
