An Ashburton woman on trial for the murder of her boyfriend claims he stabbed himself in the back of the head

Kia-ara Richardson denies fatally stabbing 23-year-old Peter Hemi during an argument in November of 2019.

More than 50 witnesses are expected to be called during a three week trial, in the High Court at Christchurch.

The jury will also hear a 111 call made by Richardson, in the moments after Hemi died, and watch video footage taken by a neighbour.
