Black Caps coach Gary Stead's kicking the can down the road on whether Tim Southee will remain the side's test captain

Black Caps coach Gary Stead's kicking the can down the road on whether Tim Southee will remain the side's test captain

Southee's captaincy has been called into question over the summer, while he only took six wickets at 71 with the ball.

Stead says with their next tests not until September - it's a decision they'll make closer to the time.

Meanwhile, White Ferns captain Sophie Devine and Melie Kerr will miss the opening T20 against England on Tuesday in Dunedin.

Devine's women's Premier League side is contesting the final tomorrow morning, while Kerr has had travel delays.
