A fifth baby tuatara has been found at Invercargill's museum demolition site

A fifth baby tuatara has been found at Invercargill's museum demolition site

Demolition paused last week when contractors and museum staff discovered four babies alive and well in the former tuatara enclosure.

The colony of rare reptiles was shifted from the museum early last year before the rebuild.

Council Parks Performance Manager, Kate Gough, says careful monitoring and thermal imaging of burrows, turned up one more on Friday.

The five babies are likely less than a year old, and can be seen from tomorrow at their new home in the Queens Park animal reserve.
