The Mercedes driver finished third after relinquishing his lead to Max Verstappen early.
Verstappen clinched his sixth win of the season - Lando Norris was second.
Russell is celebrating their competitiveness.
Scott McLaughlin's finished third as part of a Team Penske trifecta in the IndyCar series race at Wisconsin.
He had periods in the lead, but didn't have the late pace to match winner Will Power and runner-up Josef Newgarden.
McLaughlin has been on the podium three times this season from seven events.
Scott Dixon finished 21st - he's dropped to third in the standings behind Power and Alex Palou .
