More heavy rain may be ahead today

An orange heavy rain warning is in place for Bay of Plenty and Rotorua until 9pm.

Tasman, northwest of Motueka has the same warning until 8pm.

Heavy rain and thunderstorm watches are also still in place for Auckland, Northland and Coromandel -- while Taupo, Mount Taranaki and Tasman have a rain watch remaining.

MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says it's expected to be a pretty wet day for parts of the North Island.
