A 43-year-old man in custody and a gun's been seized after a Hawke's Bay police chase this morning, in which two police vehicles were rammed

Police say a driver fled from Hastings about 10am - when they tried stopping him in relation to a burglary.

The man abandoned his vehicle after hitting the police cars in Havelock North's Gardiner Place - and fled on foot with a gun.

Nearby schools were temporarily put in lockdown as a precaution, and he was arrested by 10.45.
