A reminder for early childhood centres to check their fences are compliant

A reminder for early childhood centres to check their fences are compliant

Ministry of Education figures released under the Official Information Act show 321 children escaped between 2020 and 2024.

A two-year-old boy climbed a daycare fence and found near a state highway by a motorist in Rotorua last year.

Early Childhood Council chief executive Simon Laube says some centres were some built some time ago.

He says he understands centres might not see their fences as a problem if they've never had any issues.
