Fire and Emergency is urging the public not to light any fires until after Labour Weekend, as another dose of severe weather is set to sweep across the country

Fire crews are currently monitoring the sites of multiple blazes in Kaikoura and southern Hawke's Bay.

Fourteen structures, including five homes around the Kaikoura district, have been destroyed.

Gale force winds are set to arrive tonight, along with significant heat, with Canterbury expected to reach 26 degrees tomorrow.

Fire and Emergency Assistant National Commander Ken Cooper says wind and heat are a recipe for disaster.
