Black Caps coach Rob Walter has no qualms about injecting a test rookie into the fray in the second test against the West Indies, starting in Wellington on Wednesday

With Matt Henry and Nathan Smith ruled out for the series, either Michael Rae and Kristian Clarke will play a maiden test.

Walter says both players have been on his radar for some time and he wouldn't select one or other if they weren't up to the challenge.



Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips are both in the selection mix, but Tom Blundell is only an outside chance to retain the wicket-keeping gloves due to a dodgy hamstring.
