Scarlett Johansson behaved awkwardly during her first date with husband Colin Jost

The 41-year-old actress married the Saturday Night Live star in 2020 but admits that she feared the romance would be short-lived after she "panicked" due to a lack of dating experience on their first romantic evening together.

Scarlett - who has previously been married to Ryan Reynolds and Romain Dauriac - said while guest co-hosting Jenna and Friends: "My first date with Colin, honestly, nobody ever really asked me out before.

"I was a serial monogamist and I just never got the kind of traditional, 'Hey, would you like to have dinner somewhere?' I don't know if it was just because I was working since I was little, I don't know why.'"

The Jurassic World Rebirth star added: "So he actually asked me out on a date. We went to an Italian restaurant in the East Village. It was a lovely date."

Scarlett recalled how she refused an offer from Colin to continue their evening by spending time with friends that he had arranged to meet later on.

She said: "We had dinner at 8pm or whatever, and then afterwards, he was like, 'I'm meeting friends, let's go grab a drink.' And I hadn't dated basically ever, and so I was just like, 'I have to go now. I need to leave!'

"And I got home to relieve the babysitter and it was like 9:36, and she was like, 'Why are you home?' I was like, 'I went on this date and it was - I just felt so flustered.'

"Later on he was like, 'I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird.' I panicked. I don't know."

Meanwhile, Johansson recently expressed her belief that women in Hollywood are held to higher "standards" than male stars.

The Asteroid City actress told The Telegraph newspaper: "I think it's still tough. There have always been great roles in Hollywood for women. But the standards are tough.

"In general, there's so much more expected of female actors.

"If a female actor had experienced, let's say, a huge addiction, or a public fall from grace, the road to getting back for them is almost impossible to pave, right?

"Whereas for men, it's just another dramatic twist in the story, and then it's on to the comeback. For men, it can be almost heroic. But for women, it's like you just disappear."
