The Sports Minister says Government support for a locally held America's Cup isn't guaranteed

The Sports Minister says Government support for a locally held America's Cup isn't guaranteed

Team New Zealand has lifted the "Auld Mug" for the third time in a row, after a 7-2 win over Britain in Barcelona.

Chris Bishop has congratulated the team, while clarifying the decision over where to hold the next Cup, is ultimately up to the current holders.

He says any Government support, must be assessed against other priorities.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown says a local competition would be welcomed, and is hoping Government will create a tourism bed tax to fund big events.
