A man and a woman have appeared in court charged with breaching the lockdown rules in Wellington - in apparently unconnected cases

The maximum sentence is six months' imprisonment and a fine of 4000 dollars.

The 49-year-old woman and 29-year-old man had been previously warned about the restrictions.

The arrests come within a day of strict new lockdown rules announced by the Government, including a ban on water-based activities.
