Christchurch police have arrested five young people, after an alleged crime spree

About 5pm, officers were called to Linwood Avenue after a report of a stolen vehicle.

Police say they recognised the suspects, were involved in relation to a number of offences, including vehicle theft and burglary.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle, before finding the group allegedly stealing another vehicle on Port Hills Road, Hillsborough.

Police followed the vehicle, including by air with the use a private helicopter, around the city before it came to a stop on Lichfield Street.

Officers then made the arrests after a chase on foot.
