A belief the impacts of benefit sanctions haven't filtered through to the community yet

A belief the impacts of benefit sanctions haven't filtered through to the community yet

Ministry of Social Development numbers for the last quarter, suggest a 12.8 percent increase in people receiving Jobseeker support compared to the year prior.

Sanctions issued have more than doubled -- the Government's linking this to an increase in jobseekers cancelling their benefits because they found work.

Auckland's Mangere Budgeting Service Chief Executive Lara Dolan says it's too early to say because they don't have good data to support these new sanctions.
