As summer approaches, experts are urging pet-owners to be cautious of their animal's allergies

As summer approaches, experts are urging pet-owners to be cautious of their animal's allergies

New data shows pets' skin issues cost New Zealanders $2.4 million in insurance claims last year, with Aucklanders shelling out over half of that.

Cats and dogs are especially prone to fleas and allergens when temperatures rise.

Southern Cross Business Development Manager Kerri Murray, says a little effort goes far in preventing serious skin-conditions.

She says a bit of research, regular vet visits, flea-treatment and a good diet is key for owners.
