The search is expanding for a missing 19-year old in Wellington

The search is expanding for a missing 19-year old in Wellington

Maia Johnston did not return home from a walk after Christmas drinks last night in Upper Hutt's Totara Park.

Her family reported her missing, after realising the teen, who is completely unfamiliar with the area, left without her phone or wallet.

Mother Amy Walsh told our newsroom up to 100 locals have joined her in searching.

Police are also using a drone in the search.

Police are now asking residents who live in Totara Park, Harcourt Park and Brown Owl, to check CCTV cameras for any sightings of her between 8 and 9 last night.

They say it's believed Maia was wearing a black cardigan or light top, short shorts, and black and white converse shoes.
