    Police are out in force in Auckland's Birkenhead, on the North Shore, where a blood-soaked man was found critically wounded, believed to be stabbed multiple times


    A woman's told our newsroom her husband found the man sitting against a fence on Birkenhead Avenue, covered in blood, about 2pm.

    Police are calling for witnesses, and particularly anyone who saw a vehicle fleeing.

    Birkenhead Avenue has been closed, near the intersection with Onewa Road.
