A large grass fire in Central Otago's Springvale's been contained

A large grass fire in Central Otago's Springvale's been contained

Most evacuated residents have been allowed to return home - bar a few to the west of McArthur Road.

Fire and Emergency says 21 fire trucks and support vehicles worked hard to protect properties.

One shed's been destroyed, while flames scorched the exterior of a house.

20 hectares has been burned on both sides of Springvale Road, which remains closed.

One crew will patrol the fire ground overnight, and extinguishing will continue tomorrow.
