Weather conditions in Bluff Harbour today where two people died in a boating accident ... are being described as bad

Police, Coastguard and Ambulance were involved in a rescue between Southland's Bluff Port and Tiwai Wharf - after a call out soon after midday.

Two other people are in a stable condition in hospital.

MetService's maritime forecast for Bluff lists wind at 18 knots - and a swell of less than a metre.

Police are asking for any sightings of a small boat in the harbour - or any CCTV footage.
