A 19-year-old charged with murdering an elderly woman in Canterbury's Selwyn early today, has appeared in court

Her body was discovered at a rural lifestyle block on Burnham School Road at 3am.

The man also faces two charges of assault in a family relationship relating to two other women.

He was initially charged with assaulting one with intent to injure.

He has interim name suppression, and court orders prevent naming the three women or revealing their relationship to him.
