The Navy's largest ship has sailed into New Plymouth for a home port visit - including a ship open day

Since last returning three years ago, the HMNZS Aotearoa and its crew have sailed to Antarctica, and supported the UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea.

Now, the vessel's back for an open day where members of the public get the chance to tour the ship.

The tour is happening between 10am and 3:30pm today, at Port Taranaki's East Gate, on Ocean View Parade.

Commanding Officer of Aotearoa, Commander Rob Welford says they'll be proud to show everyone around.
