A Coroner's recommended NZTA replace old median barriers - after a crash killed three seasonal workers in Auckland in 2024

A Coroner's recommended NZTA replace old median barriers - after a crash killed three seasonal workers in Auckland in 2024

They were killed when a truck ploughed through a barrier into their van after blowing a tyre on State Highway One.

NZTA asked the coroner to amend her recommendation to auditing barriers, instead of replacing them, with funding issues delaying replacement.

Alison Mills says it's not sufficient to only replace barriers subject to funding - because the consequences of their failure are so great.
