    To the World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, in Japan... where Erika Fairweather's placed second in her 800 metre freestyle heat and third fastest overall, going straight to Sunday's final


    US star Katie Ledecky topped the qualifying - by almost five seconds.

    Another Kiwi, Eve Thomas, missed out in the 800 free with the 12th fastest time.

    Lewis Clareburt also missed qualification for the semifinals of his 100 metres butterfly, with fifth in his heat.

    Of the other New Zealanders in action, Helena Gasson just missed out in the 50 metre butterfly with seventh in a fast heat... finishing just .06 of a second outside the qualifying mark.

    Hazel Ouwehand also failed to progress... Michael Pickett missed out in 50 metre freestyle qualifying.
