Tournament director Karl Budge heads to New York tomorrow, where he hopes to finalise a higher ranked player than Serena Williams for January's ASB Classic

Tournament director Karl Budge heads to New York tomorrow, where he hopes to finalise a higher ranked player than Serena Williams for January's ASB Classic

The 23-times Grand Slam champion has been confirmed to return to Auckland for a second time, having lost in the second round in 2017 before going on to win the Australian Open while pregnant.

Under tour rules, the Classic is only allowed one top 10 player, with Williams currently eighth.

But Budge envisages her dropping, given limited playing schedule.
