One family is front of mind for South Auckland's Mangere community after a young child died in a house fire

The blaze - on Tidal Road - was already well involved by the time fire crews arrived - just before 1:30 Saturday afternoon.

The child was found dead inside the home and four others with minor injuries were assessed by ambulance staff.

Local Councillor Alf Filipaina says it's a tragedy which has been felt throughout Mangere.

He hopes to find out more, so the family can be supported in their grieving.
