    Wayne Brown says Auckland Unlimited won't be disestablished, although its role may change


    The council-controlled currently has a number of functions, including economic development, tourism promotion, events funding, and running stadiums and facilities.

    The Auckland Mayor says he's proposing the organisation retain a destination and major events function, delivering a strategy set by councillors.

    Brown says ratepayers shouldn't carry the financial burden of marketing Auckland and attracting big events, when private businesses profit the most.

    He says that is why a bed night visitor levy is neccessary.
