A man has been arrested accused of ramming a stolen hatchback into a Police patrol vehicle in Auckland

Police say they were alerted to a Toyota Vitz had been stolen about 8.30pm yesterday, and tracked it from Great North Road to Grey Lynn.

Inspector Grae Anderson says the vehicle of officers trying to stop it were rammed - and the driver fled towards Ponsonby.

Police then stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Karangahape Road and Pitt Street and arrested both occupants.

A 36-year-old faces multiple charges including taking a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and assault with a weapon.
