Black Caps test wicketkeeper Tom Blundell has snared the wicket of Auckland big hitter Bevon Jacobs in one day cricket's Ford Trophy for Wellington

Black Caps test wicketkeeper Tom Blundell has snared the wicket of Auckland big hitter Bevon Jacobs in one day cricket's Ford Trophy for Wellington

Blundell, who had not previously bowled in a one-day match, dismissed Jacobs LBW for 38 with his off-break bowling in the second ball of his five-over spell.

He traded the wicketkeeping gloves with Peter Younghusband, who had bowled 10 overs himself.

His efforts at the bowling crease have been few and far between in other formats - he has only one first-class wicket - Black Caps teammate Daryl Mitchell in 2017 in the Plunket Shield.

And Blundell also bowled a three-over spell in the Black Caps' Boxing Day test loss at the MCG in 2019 - where he scored a ton.

Auckland made 240 for eight at the Eden Park outer oval, with Wellington's chase underway.

Northern Districts made 309 for eight against Central Districts in Hamilton, led by 66 to teenage Xavier Bell.

No play has been possible between Otago and Canterbury in Invercargill due to rain.
