Thirteen fire trucks and a helicopter are tackling the blaze near Old West Coast and Bleak House roads.
A Herald reporter says the rural area is surrounded by vast farmland with a strong smell of smoke filling the air.
Local Dean Jenkins was one of the first on scene, and says the fire started near a white-ware recycling workshop.
