A South Dunedin boarding house fire which left a man dead, appears to have been started by the 51-year-old

A South Dunedin boarding house fire which left a man dead, appears to have been started by the 51-year-old

Christopher Paul Bonisch died when the house on Kensington's Phillips Street went up in flames in 2022.

According to the ODT, Coroner Marcus Elliot found the fire started in a pile of clothes, which had evidence of an accelerant on them.

He couldn't determine whether Bonisch had deliberately put an accelerant on the clothes, as the liquid may've been accidentally spilled on them - and he was known to smoke in the room.
