F1 live Brazil: Oscar Piastri fifth after penalty, Lando Norris wins Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri's Formula 1 title challenge has taken another hit, with the Australian being penalised for a crash in Brazil while championship leader Lando Norris won the São Paulo Grand Prix. Follow live.

Oscar Piastri's Formula 1 title hopes have taken a hit in Brazil, with the Australian finishing fifth at the São Paulo Grand Prix after being penalised for a crash during the race.

Piastri's McLaren teammate Lando Norris tightened his grip on the championship lead, converting pole position into victory.

Norris now holds a 24-point lead in the drivers' championship over Piastri, a margin that was just one point at the beginning of the weekend.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli drove a brilliant race to finish second, holding off a fast-finishing Max Verstappen, who placed third after starting from the pit lane. George Russell was fourth for Mercedes.

Starting fourth, and one day removed from crashing out of the sprint race, Piastri needed to climb up the grid to challenge Norris on Monday morning (AEDT).

But the Australian's race came unstuck after an overtake he made to jump from fourth into second.

Piastri went for a big move off a safety car restart on lap six of 71, going down the inside of second-placed Antonelli, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

Piastri locked a front tyre while braking as Antonelli turned across the Australian into the left-hand corner. Piastri and Antonelli collided, with the force of the hit sending Antonelli into Leclerc and knocking the Ferrari driver out of the race.

Piastri said on his team radio that he was not left any space by Antonelli, but the race stewards deemed the McLaren driver at fault and penalised him 10 seconds.
