    A person has died after being hit by a car in Kaiapoi this morning


    Emergency services were called to Beach Road in the small North Canterbury town shortly after 1am.

    Police say a car had collided with a pedestrian - who died at the scene.

    The street was initially closed for a scene examination - but has now reopened.
