Westland Milk is continuing to investigate an accidental chemical leak at its Hokitika factory

Westland Milk is continuing to investigate an accidental chemical leak at its Hokitika factory

A chemical hose burst at the facility yesterday - sparking warnings a potentially harmful liquid could spill out of the factory - which can produce skin rashes, eye damage and respiratory irritation.

Grey Base Hospital and Hokitika medical centres were notified but no one presented to either facility.

The faulty pipe has been replaced and Westland Milk is still looking into why the pipe failed.

WorkSafe has lifted its "non-disturbance" notice and allowed Westland to resume full operations.
