A warning for those working with power tools in searing temperatures today

A warning for those working with power tools in searing temperatures today

It's going to be very hot in eastern parts of the country, including the likes of Tauranga, Masterton, Blenheim and Timaru.

Christchurch is forecast to be the hottest of the lot ... looking at a possible January record of 36 degrees.

Fire and Emergency spokesperson Andrew Norris says people need to be conscious of the risks of using electrical equipment.

He says anything that can generate heat or sparks presents a possible risk of fire, especially when cutting metals.

Fire permits have been cancelled for the next 48 hours.
